When the internet, and hence, the domain name system (DNS) were new, only government and education organizations were using the web, so trust was assumed and security was not considered. Today, DNS is one of the most regular targets of cyber criminals.
Recent attacks highlight how bad actors intercept and manipulate a company’s legitimate web traffic, harvest information like credentials and email addresses, and perform additional malicious activities, like phishing. For businesses, the stakes are high. No functioning DNS means no company website or internet presence, and sometimes, no phone access (if using voice over IP).
