A trademark application has hinted at a possible move into the smartphone games market for software giant Bungie.
A spin-off company, named Bungie Aerospace, has filed a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for ‘Crimson,’ reports Game Informer.
According to the filing, the term refers to “computer game software downloadable from a global computer network” or “computer game software for use on mobile and cellular phones.”
Earlier this year, Bungie posted a job advertisement for mobile application developers, suggesting that the firm is looking to tap into this growing market.
The number of trademark protection applications filed through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) rose by 12.8% last year.
WIPO’s director-general, Francis Gurry, explained that international trademark activity has rebounded and nearly recovered the ground lost in 2009 during the global economic downturn.
