A protest campaign aimed at derailing ICM Registry’s .xxx top level domain name application has been ratcheted up as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) prepares to introduce a range of new Web address suffixes.
The Free Speech Coalition (FSC), which is made up of representatives from the adult entertainment industry, claims that ICM does not have the interests of stakeholders at heart and simply wants to make huge amounts of money from the administration of the .xxx domain name ending.
FSC President Diane Duke has called on all adult entertainment industry professionals to denounce ICM’s application.
The FSC will be holding a protest rally outside the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco’s Union Square on March 17 to coincide with ICANN’s next public meeting.
ICANN is hoping to discuss several unresolved issues relating to online copyright and international trademark law with regards the Web.
