A Nevada casino group is suing a rival operator for alleged cybersquatting and trademark infringement, it has been reported.
GNLV Corp., which owns the Las Vegas and Laughlin-based Golden Nugget casinos, has filed a lawsuit against online operator Kanter Associates SA.
The application, made in U.S. District Court, alleges that Kanter — which trades out of Panama — runs a website with domain name thegoldennuggett.com.
According to GNLV Corp., misspelling the domain name with an extra ‘t’ demonstrates that this is a clear case of cybersquatting via the use of a typo.
Currently, the website offers links to travel and reservation services involving the Golden Nugget and other casinos.
The lawsuit alleges that the defendant “has registered, trafficked in and/or used a domain name that is identical or confusingly similar to and/or dilutive of plaintiff’s trademarks.”
Earlier this year, GNLV Corp. brought a separate action against the owner of golddennugget.com, over another incidence of typosquatting.
In this case, the defendant had registered a domain name with an extra ‘d’ in golden.
