Design firm Methodics has secured the rights to the domain name methodics.com following intervention from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The previous owner of the domain was given ten days to hand over the web address, which will now be used to support Methodics’ main website.
WIPO determined that the defendant registered and used the disputed domain name in bad faith, and as such, should be transferred to Methodics.
The company sought the rights to the name following a series of malicious and misleading posts on the domain address by the cybersquatter.
Messages reporting that Methodics had gone out of business were posted, along with links to a competitor’s website.
“We are satisfied and vindicated that the issue has been resolved in a fair way and we no longer have to deal with this silly distraction,” said Simon Butler, chief executive of the company.
“We look forward to using our rightful domain name as a platform to keep our customers and the rest of the industry informed about our progress.”
