The value of domain names is steadily increasing, it has been claimed.
According to new research from domain name registrar Sedo, the average value of .com domain names rose by 61.9 per cent year-on-year, while .org web addresses saw their value rise by 55.9 per cent.
The value of .net web addresses also rose — albeit by the smaller amount of 10.2 per cent.
What’s more, Sedo’s latest Annual Domain Market Study shows that registrations are also on the uptick — despite the recent global economic downturn — with sales climbing by 12 per cent during 2010.
“The growth in domain name sales has been consistently on the upswing as more businesses recognize their value in growing a company’s online presence,” said Nora Nanayakkara, business development director at Sedo.
This week, digital marketing specialist Econsultancy claimed that the introduction of new top level domain names would bring an end to domain name speculation.
