The owner of GreatApps.com is hoping to attract interest from domain name investors after putting the Web address up for sale.
A reserve price of $1,000,000 has been placed on the domain name at auction, with ownership of sister address GreatApp.com included as part of the deal.
The seller hopes the exponential growth witnessed in the mobile technology sector — and Web application market — over the past few years has seen the domain name’s value soar.
GreatApps.com said it “would entertain all serious offers” for the legal rights to its name. “This is an amazing opportunity to purchase a domain name that directly applies to application software (‘Apps’) on all levels,” the website stated. “There are hundreds of thousands of Apps in the marketplace today operating on various devices and platforms.”
Last month, 22-year-old UK graduate Umer Malik announced his ambition to break the record for the biggest single domain name sale in Britain.
He urged interested parties to bid for his justmarket.co.uk domain name, which has a guideline price of £560,000 ($911,000).
