The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has launched a new micro-site for information and advice about generic top-level domain names (gTLDs).
Interested parties are able to access gTLD-related content via a link on the Icann.org website, the organisation revealed.
ICANN said the micro-site had been designed to help everyone interested in new gTLDs, regardless of their level of knowledge.
Basic, introductory information is available under the ‘About’ tab, while organizations can access further detail using the ‘Applicants’ link.
This offers a wide range of educational materials, including interviews with chief executives of current Internet registries, and presentations on how to complete the application form.
“Potential applicants, including those in developing economies, can learn about financial and non-financial assistance through the Applicant Support Program,” ICANN explained.
Information on the organization’s website is available in six UN languages, meaning non-English speakers are also able to make full use of the website.
ICANN is in the midst of a major campaign to raise awareness around the world about the impact and possibilities of new gTLDs.
Organizations will have the opportunity to apply for generic top level domains between January 12th and April 12th 2012.
