The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is continuing to encourage global debate over domain name management, aiming to ensure that all stakeholders’ voices are heard.
For the 13th round of its Fellowship Program, ICANN has invited 23 fellows from 19 emerging nations to attend its 41st public meeting, to be staged in Singapore, June 19-24.
ICANN said it was looking to encourage and facilitate wider involvement by supporting members of the Internet community who might not be able to participate in ICANN processes without external support.
The corporation explained that its Fellowship Program is geared at creating “a broad base of knowledgeable constituents who will become the new voices of experience in their regions.”
ICANN received 80 applications from Internet stakeholders in the developing world seeking subsidized attendance to the June convention.
A dozen of the selected participants — who will be given airfare, a hotel booking and financial support for the week — are first-time attendees at an ICANN meeting.
The online Fellowship Program application process for the 42nd ICANN public meeting — to be staged in Dakar, Senegal, October 23-28 — opens on May 27th.
