US authorities have shut down a number of websites as the crackdown on online trafficking in counterfeit goods continues.
More than 130 domain names were seized on Friday alone by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to Torrent Freak.
ICE declined to confirm how many websites were shut down but said the seizures were part of an ongoing law enforcement operation.
“No further details are available at this time,” a spokesperson stated.
Sites with domain names such as reeboksite.com, shopsbag.com, verycheapjerseys.com and officialpumashop.com were among those to be taken, the news provider stated.
ICE has been carrying out its Operation In Our Sites campaign since last year, seizing website addresses which are used for the purpose of supporting illegal activities.
In November 2010, ahead of the Christmas e-commerce rush, the US authorities shut down 82 websites suspected of helping trade counterfeit goods.
