Singer Katy Perry’s merchandising firm has filed a trademark infringement claim against bootleggers selling fake products at the pop star’s shows.
The Detroit News reports that Bravado International Group Merchandising Services filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Detroit seeking to block people from selling black-market shirts, buttons, posters, hats and visors.
No bootleggers are named in the lawsuit but the firm said it would reveal names later, the newspaper reported.
The merchandise sold by bootleggers is of inferior quality and is damaging to Perry’s reputation, the company’s lawyers were reported as stating in the complaint.
“Absent the relief requested, plaintiff’s monetary losses could aggregate in the hundreds of thousands of dollars,” Bravado lawyer Cara Burns was quoted as saying.
