Businesses have been reminded of the value of using the Madrid System for Registration of Trademarks as they look to market their brands across the world.
The International News explained how companies using the mechanism can protect their services and products for global sale.
The Madrid System is an international trademark registration process, comprising two facets – the Madrid Agreement and Madrid Protocol.
Some 85 countries are signed up to the system, allowing companies in these nations to seek global intellectual property rights.
“The trademark allows a consumer to distinguish between similar products and stop counterfeiters,” the news provider stated.
“Geographical Indications help a country win a respectable place in a global market based on its agricultural and industrial strengths.”
The news provider explained that registering a trademark in foreign markets gives a company the exclusive right to commercialize its products in those markets.
