The .co domain name extension has reached its one millionth registration. This key milestone has been reached less than a year after the extension came into commercial use.
Consumers, businesses and organizations in more than 200 countries around the world have registered domain names with a .co extension.
Among the high-profile registrants have been online retailer Amazon and micro-blogging service Twitter.
Naval Ravikant, founder of the business investment website Angel List, said this has created “massive mainstream awareness” and encouraged many other smaller brands to set up websites using a .co domain name.
The .co domain name originated in December 1991 as the country code designated for the Republic of Colombia.
However, the extension has been in use for commercial purposes only since July 2010.
