A Texas energy firm stands accused of registering two domain names for the express purpose of cybersquatting.
According to the Dallas Business Journal, two lawsuits have been filed against Christopher Faulkner, chief executive of Breitling Oil and Gas Corp.
Dallas-based Fusion Energy LLC has taken exception to the registration of the domain names fusionoilandgas.com and fusionoilandgas.blogspot.com by Mr. Faulkner.
The company said the domain names had been registered to deliberately direct customers away from Fusion’s own online presence.
Mr. Faulkner has also been accused of publishing defamatory, false, and malicious information about Fusion and its president and chief executive, William Scott Court, the news provider stated.
Last month, social media giant Facebook filed a legal complaint against 25 companies known to have purchased domain names similar to facebook.com.
The firm said it was looking to protect its brand by clamping down on incidents of typosquatting.
