Third cybersquatting case over ‘red tube’ domain names

A cybersquatting dispute is hotting up between the owner of RedTube.com and the holder of several similar domain names.

According to Xbiz, Bright Imperial Ltd, which owns RedTube.com, has filed a federal lawsuit against the operators of the websites Red-Tube.com, RedTube.net and 27 similar domain names.

This is the third cybersquatting suit brought by the company over the registration of ‘red tube’ domain names.

Bright Imperial has been victorious on both previous occasions in the courts, with one suit seeing 116 similar ‘red tube’ domain names seized.

RT Media Solutions, a company registered in the Czech Republic, and its managing director, Walter Olligschlager are the named targets in the current case.

However, the defendant is arguing that it registered a ‘red tube’ website before Bright Imperial, a suggestion which is refuted by the plaintiff.

RT Media Solutions claims it started using Red-Tube.com in November 2006, about five months before RedTube.com was launched.

But Bright Imperial said its www.jpds.com/redtube starting date is the one to consider. And by November 2006, the website page was already receiving 286,000 daily visits.
